Summer Reading Blackout Bingo is the Lower School summer reading program for grades K-4. It is designed to encourage students to read a variety of books over the summer break. The reading categories serve two purposes: to encourage the student to use the library catalog or browse the shelves to find books of interest and to encourage students to read different genres.
How does it work?
Students are given the bingo card for the appropriate grade level in late May. Over the summer, students read a book that fits each category on the card and then write the title of the book in the box. When the entire bingo card is full, the parent or guardian signs the card and then returns it to the classroom teacher when school begins. All cards must be submitted by August 26, 2015.
Other important information
• You may read the books in any order and you may get them from any source.
• You are to record the title of the book in the box once you have completed the reading.
• Reading must take place between May 22, 2015, and August 26, 2015.
• Each book counts only once. You may not repeat the same book in two squares.
• Any book read BY or TO the student counts. Even older students like to be read to every now and then.
Out of uniform day
Students who complete the reading, fill out the entire card, get the card signed and return it to your classroom teacher by August 26, 2015, may be out of uniform on September 4, 2015, as part of our summer reading celebration.
What if I lose my card?
PDF files of the bingo cards are available on the Library section of the FWCD website under Summer Reading, or go to http://fwcdreads.wikispaces.com.
